The lotus, also known as persimmon and Kaki Fruit, is an excellent source of b-carotene, vitamin C and potassium. When mature, it is very sweet and contains a large amount of sugars and proteins. Thanks to the delicate and distinctive flavor, its high esteem was enjoyed since the ancient times. In Homer’s “Odyssey” it is the “fruit of oblivion”.
